10,000 Flowers for Willie Grimes

“10,000 Flowers for Willie Grimes” is an installation honoring the memory of this NCAT student whose death brought international attention to the racial instability of Greensboro in 1969.

Utilizing discarded graveyard flowers collected over the course of 12 months, this “flower field” is arranged in a traditional asymmetrical African quilt pattern.
